My high school was very small and there was no school counselor. My grandmother encouraged me to go into the medical field so I considered physical therapy. It was in college I recognized my passion was not going to be in the medical field but I knew I wanted to help people. I stumbled into an elective course, Introduction to School Counseling, where all the bells and whistles went off directing me to the most rewarding career I could have ever dreamed of. It's certainly filled with its ups and downs but I treasure all the opportunities to work with students as they navigate life.
Donna, I thought you'd recognize "that" Anne! That was 1978, the summer after George graduated high school. I'm trying to figure a way to develop something that might work. Is the goal to have a district or school level project? I've done many activities on communication that incorporate empathy but of course those are just one time experiences. I guess I'm hoping to find a balance of training, implementation and keeping something going...Thanks for this opportunity!
