Dan, Having worked with middle school students for a long time, I find myself wondering where in academics being a little older or wiser isn't an advantage? The redshirt Jr is really 22. Is there a spot in a K-12 environment where that could work against a student with other things being equal? Thanks for the feedback and the tweet! Frank
Jennifer, I really like the statement that she was, "asked to explain beliefs I had never thought to question." I think it speaks to another whole part of the value of that time. I'd love to see people be able to become "citizens of themselves" by really getting to know what they value in that time. Thanks for the article and the feedback! Frank
I would love to see a process that acts to guide those decisions. Students who learn that they don't necessarily enjoy the "classroom" could be at an advantage because they already have a strong feeling about what they want (and don't). Providing time for students to come to those decisions is critical to long term success.
