Carole, This is an amazing project! I am jealous of your position and freedom you have. This seems to be very closely aligned to Sugatra Mitra's SOLEs. Have you heard of these? Have you tried speaking with the company that produces the honey to see if they would donate any for your study? Many companies today will do that especially if you can show them the benefits of your research. I am curious how you get your students to generate their own questions and solve them? How much facilitation do you have to contribute?
Great idea Samuel! I am curious how you knew your students weren't paying attention when they were doodling. I have read a lot of research about how some students need doodling to focus more on what they are learning. I agree with Michael, give them some freedom and see where they take it. The more they are invested in the process, the deeper the learning can be!
