Margaret my comment was an amalgamation of conversations i've had with colleagues after every parent teacher session we run. We teach in team, and the students mostly engage with their learning in team, and yet the parent teacher interview is individual. We often wonder what it would look like for parents to see their children 'in their natural environment' as it were. The individual nature of parent-teacher interviews is possibly an extension of the individual performance nature of examinations, because Most parents are probably concerned with how their child is progressing (or ranking). The 'empathy' side of this comment is from the perspective of the teacher.
