I use many Biblical sources, but that may not be an option for some.

Self help books are a great tool to pick excerpts from.

Movie clips (http://wingclips.com) have a plethora of clips decoded by topic.

InspirationalQuote emails make everything sound prettier :)

Real life stories that may be found on the internet may also be helpful.

Teaching in a religious day school does make this task easier; I have collected Biblical sources (including Talmudic) over the past few years and have about 15 sources for each character trait. To supplement the religious sources, I use inspirational quotes (from Inspiration Quote a Day emails), excerpts from books, movie clips, news articles etc.

Being that this is not a scholarly topic, yet more of a global issue, there are many (many, many, many) resources out there on character building. It all depends on what you feel comfortable bringing into your class.
