Google allows employees to spend 20% of their time at work (one day a week or one hour a day) on something they are passionate about learning. The philosophy behind this initiative is that the best ideas come from individual curiosity, and the opportunity to pursue one’s own interests. This philosophy,  I think, beautifully captures our "How might we" question.

Students CHOOSE their project - what do they want to learn? How to dance? How to crochet? Another language? A sport? Once they decide, they pitch the idea, get it approved, and create a blog to post updates and evidence of their learning.

Share insights you heard during your empathy work.

Students want to be interested in what they're learning. They need to see the relevance and they want choices so their voices are heard.
