Hi Nicole Schmidt  -- thanks so much for sharing this post! Sounds like 5th grade is rife with student judgment -- of themselves and fear of judgment from their peers. Asking for help can be terribly stigmatizing for students, especially if it's about something they "should" already know. It seems there's a lot of opportunity to build one-on-one support systems here -- between you and your students, and between your students and their peers. One-on-one interactions relieve the pressure that comes with full-group environments and also give teachers and students a chance to be more authentic and, in some cases, even vulnerable. It seems Empathy Interviews would be a neat activity to help add detail to your already-rich insights! Can't what to hear what's next!
