What do we want to achieve?
The simple aim of the Icebreaker Quiz is to breakdown barriers between teachers, students and parents. We have the ability to create student-centred resources to make The Parent Teacher Conference a dynamic, two-way exchange of information and ideas. Let's increase the fun and reduce the anxiety, that traditionally surrounds this event, with a simple quiz, organised and hosted by the students.
Suggested quiz format
A panel of students will create a range of questions exploring what it is to be a young learner. Select parents will form a team and pit their knowledge against the teacher team. Ultimately, the answers will determine which team knows them best. The quiz template should be flexible, leaving plenty of scope for schools to adapt it for their specific areas of expertise.
Format can be as simple as pub-style paper quiz, right through to an all-singing-and-dancing gameshow production. Questions should provide a fun insight into student life / youth culture. Organisers will be encouraged to be as imaginative as they can be about their approach. It's the taking part that counts, so the winning team will be awarded a nominal prize. If the format takes off, it could easily become an event that staff, students and teachers actually look forward to each year!:o)
Calling all parents and teachers... try the sample quiz!
