Letting go of PTC

For the first time ever we are having SLC!!!

I must admit that at first the prospect of it frightened me as well as excited me.

I just adore PTC! I love sitting and chatting about my students with their parents, showcasing their evolution and accomplishments, and devising a plan together on how to help our children to do better when/where and if needed.

I love to discuss how to extend their learning! love all about PTC.

So you can guess that when I was told we are going to to SLC I was just dismayed, but then...

                                                                   Magic Happened

I put my students' portfolios together and invited them to talk to me about their work and - Oh La La - I was in total awe!!!! They looked at their work and explained to me themselves what they worked on, what they wanted to get better at, what they liked or didn't like about it!

The pleasure of listening to them talking about it is priceless!

I know... I must let them go... that is what is all about!

[Optional] Synthesize a little! In one sentence, describe something you learned from your empathy exercises or analogous research.

Magic happens when you allow yourself to be surprised!

Paula, I so agree with you!!  I've been doing SLC without really having a name for it for years! It was great for the SEL piece too.  Especially when I was teaching 5th at 5-8 middle school where the 5th graders were the "babies" on campus. Students were able to discuss their thoughts and insecurities on the transition from their home elementary schools.
