Meet, Greet, Repeat

Parent teacher interactions start at back to school night, then moves on to individual Conferences, and ends with Open House.

Which parent teacher conference do we focus on? Teachers and parents conference in various ways through the year at different school year events. Should we focus on the back to school night whole class presentation? Or do we examine the individual parent teacher conference? Finally, there is the Open House style night that wraps up the year.  Each of these offers different opportunities for parents and teachers to conference.

I look forward to following the discussions and seeing the different directions we all go with parent teacher conferences.

Ashley - If you'd be willing, I would greatly appreciate your support for Guideposts to Success by heading to the post and leaving a positive evaluation, as well as suggestions to grow the idea even more! Thank you!

Love the questions.

It's useful for me to think about the purposes behind each of the those events (both stated and unstated) when trying to figure out if what we are doing already is successful or if change is needed. It also gives me starting point for empathy interviews and such that Michael mentioned--if I think that the back to school night is about building relationships, but when I talk to a parent about it, they feel like it's a waste of time, there's a disconnect and a problem to be solved (and designed around).

Is your school explicit about the purpose of each of those parent/teacher touch points? Are there any disconnects between what the purpose is and what the parents and teachers think the purpose is?

Hi Ashley, love seeing you on the platform still. Your contributions are always so well thought out.  Your post makes me wonder which has the most "impact" on our students and on our parents. Is it the same event? Is it different? If so, why?

Have you seen our empathy guide? It is a great resource to get started with an empathy user. Maybe you could interview a student and/or a parent to gain some deeper insights about school events.
