If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse.

Parent conferences tend to go on the list of "extras" that teachers dread. If this is truly important, make it part of the day.

I absolutely love so many of these ideas!  Particularly those that involve eating together or meeting outside of school at a different location.  I don't think it can be disputed that parent involvement is a critical issue in education right now.  In conversations with colleagues, I have found that parent conferences  in the evening after school are viewed as an extra chore placed on already overloaded teachers.  Let's  make these conferences full day events that implement many of these ideas during regular school hours.  Students can easily be a part of them, transportation can be provided, teachers won't feel an additional burden, and the need to rush will be partially removed.  Why couldn't we have parent days once a month?  Make these days part of the curriculum, schedule, and culture of the school....
