Hashtags can provide an instant community no matter where your students move on to. This project is student-initiated, doesn’t take a lot of time, and utilizes something students are already doing- posting on social media. Help your group, class, or school stay connected by creating a collective hashtag for them to use on social media.

How you can get started:

  • Talk with your student body about using social media to stay in touch after high school.
  • Give agency to students to suggest and vote on a unique #hashtag to use.
  • Make it a contest!
  • Stream the images and videos at the end of year events!
  • Share this new hashtag with the student body using posters and in the school news.
  • Encourage students to try out the hashtag during end of the year events, through summer, and beyond.

AHA! Let's all talk about it! How would you make that happen? would you set up a time for the discussion? would you have different channels? would love to hear more!

Hi Lauren,
Did you give some thought to Donna Teuber suggestion of starting a google doc? We could flesh this idea our with you. Let me know if you want to :-) paula@teachersguild.org

Hi Lauren I love this idea because it would not require a lot of red tape to get started.  Have you considered interviewing students to find out what social media tools they are using?  It could leverage a tool they use and it does not feel like one more thing.

Hi Lauren, Love your idea of using hashtags to give students a way to stay connected! I would love to see you build this idea out during our Ideate phase. Check out the Synthesis Guide: https://goo.gl/wV54tI.

Let's build it out! I would want it to be student driven - how can we include students to want to share about their post high-school experiences, I bet they already do?

Hi Lauren, The next step might be to start brainstorming in a Google Doc and invite others from the Guild to join in. I would love to think of ways to engage students in sharing their experiences through social media.
