On 11 and 12 year we can design a special course in partnership with different employees that can let the students practice in special company projects  working  as an assistant of an expert, where they can have a hands on experience in the field of their interest, this can motivate them to continue with their education or have an insight and rethink what they really want.

On 11 grade the school can ask them about their interest and have time contact the different employees.

The employee and the teacher can give them grades for this course and the students can have a better idea of what is the real life work and think about their true motivations are.

Either they like it or not, so if they didn't like it they can make an adjustment and try to do another thing.

I like this idea, a course for credit....or even an internship for credit.

Good idea, Ana. I think this project would help students to identify their interests in order to choose a career.

Ana, I think students will experience valuable connected relationships with the experts, which will help them further identify passions, talents and interests. This type of connection has the potential to help guide students along meaningful learning paths.

Yes Beth i agree with you,  I'm just thinking about  how to work with the passion, many of us discovered in an adult life so maybe if they do it when they are young that will help them to  have better chances

Ana, I love this idea. It´s not easy to find you truly passion, especially when you don´t have any experience about it. To have the opportunity to be close to an expert can help to understand what it is the real matter of what gets your attention as a student.
I like more the prototypeB because I think the time in the prototypeA is not enough.
I recommend that the student could follow two experts of the same field to get a better view. Sometimes if you know only one kind of leader, you can get a limit idea.
Congratulations!

Sachi thank you for your feed back,   you are right maybe they should go with two different leaders!

I will take that in consideration!

Great idea to allow students practice in a real world! This motivates them and helps them to know their real interests and develops skills. Congratulations, Ana!

Dear Hilda do you think this will work for your students?

Ana, I would include a self-evaluation rubric that can help the students decide if they really found what they are passionate about. I would also add a document with all the possible fields that there are, not just the companies names, so the students can open their scope even more, and not limit the options to what is in their hometown only. I have a couple of questions:
What is the company going to gain from this? It might be useful to  include in your  outcomes what is the benefit for the companies.
Congratulations, this is a great idea. I would love to have the opportunity to try it.

Thank you Tere for your comments, I will include the self-evaluation rubric as you suggest.  I think that the companies benefit can be that they will detect future talent, see how the new generations are changing,   and be near the community.

Let's keep in touch maybe you wold like to work with a student

Great Idea Ana!!!! I believe is quite a challenge to inspire young people. I suggest you also make team mates with people involved in fine arts and writing. We need more creative minds to collaborate in designing the kind of world they want to live in and what kind of people they want to be.

Thank you Vero for your suggestion , do you know somebody in those fiels who will like to participate with this idea?

I have two friends that are into Arts. I am sure they can participate and talk to your students about their experience and work: Karla Tellez y Elisa Urias. I will share your idea.

Excelente idea,  una manera muy efectiva de aprendizaje es a través de la practica y que los alumnos tenga esa oportunidad de vivirlo y experimentar es única, realmente pueden darse cuenta si les gusta y probar. Éxito!

This is interesting, because at that age, you dont have the ability to recognice what you are good to do or, what is your passion, this kind of help marks the path to follow.

Hello Daniel!  do you have any recomendation?

Hi Manuel, would you implemented in your school?

Great idea Ana!  I think this would also help them gain confidence in their own performance in real world situations, and also contribute to the development of soft skills.

This is a great project.  I find 11th and 12th year students thinking about the "name" of their degrees and not analysing what are they going to do in their professional life.  It is not about degrees, it is about a passion that is fulfilled with the knowledge of a degree that will help them to serve the community.

Thank you Rocio for your comments, I was just like that when I was young,  I never realize all the implications of my career and that's why I think is important to make the young people to have an experience a real experience to have a point of reference

This is an excellent idea, today more than ever it is necessary that students have real life experiences tha t will help them to understand better the actual necessities

Definitely, passion is what moves us and motivates us to perform, to create, to do different things. This is a great project that will help future generations to work and to have a full and interesting life project. Congratulations Ana!

To find your passion at an early age is a great motivator to channel your studies in an enjoyable way.  The role of the practitioners will be crucial in showing how you can love what you do for a living, so choosing them is a key part of your  proposal. Great idea, Ana!

Thank you Rosy for your comments,  do you have any advice or recomendation? to improve the prototype?

Hello Ana, I think this idea is marvelous. If the kids have a real opportunity to be in the field they like, surely they'll feel more motivated.

Hi Ana, I love the idea of connecting students with the Real World.  Since I have been at my current school we have encouraged students to reach out to experts in the field and teachers to bring in external experts.  Oftentimes educators are removed from industries so this will allow students to get feedback from people who are actually "doing it".
Let me know if I can help/work with you to push your idea further.

Thank you James, it is very important to help the students to find their passion field

Ana!

Great post! I love the real-world idea - and definitely think it would help students better understand what they want to do once in college. It makes me think of a school's model here in SF that you might draw inspiration from: http://www.icacademy.org/

Also, wanted to give you 3 tips to make your post pop:
1) Revise the title so it's more specific. Maybe "Real World Internships for Students"
2) Add a photo - given our terms, you're ok to use any old google image search image!
3) If you have some teammates you want to bring in, you can add them in on the teams section.

How can a I find team mates?

Hey! Great question. You can bring in people from your own classroom or school. Or - we can help match make. What do you think? Do you want to meet new peeps or get some old friends on board.

Hi Ana! Thanks for sharing your idea with us. We suggest adding a photo to your idea to help other educators more quickly understand what your idea is about. Looking forward to collaborating with you!

I'm new in this site, how can you collaborate with me?

Hi again Ana. Like Emma said in her comment below, you can collaborate by adding comments to other teachers' ideas, work with teachers at your school on your idea, or select the "create team" in the grey box above and choose teachers who you want to join your team and help work on this idea with you.
