How might we increase the visibility of parents and community members in our school to help us navigate issues instead of bringing in cops and criminalizing students of color, students receiving special education services and students who identify as LGBTQIA+?

This is systemic, though the vast majority of gun violence in schools where deaths and injuries have occurred are in white and affluent communities. The saddest part is that they are requested by schools more often than not, because of internalized oppression and biases held by those who are not people of color. There is no reason why some kids’ childhoods should be penalized. Community School Boards and School Leadership on site need to be held accountable for what is PTSD facing these kids who are expected to be gleefully educated near a system that gets away with targeting and killing them with impunity. Increase restorative justice practices. Increase counselors in schools. Have yoga mindful practice. Have recess!!! All of these are great diffusers of conflict.
