Start of Year Home Visits

I had a pre-school teacher who would make house-visits to every family in her class at the start of each school year. My mom described it as incredibly meaningful to have her child's teacher take the time out of her evening to make house calls in the first month of school.

The meeting was used to get to know the family, ask about any special needs the child had, and generally connect with the child more closely. It was also a great opportunity to break the ice between parent and teacher, and led to many parents feeling comfortable reaching out to the teacher throughout the year.

Yes! As parents, we experienced this once - as our oldest son Malcolm entered Kindergarten. I hadn't anticipated how meaningful it would be to me to share my hopes and dreams, my fears and doubts, with his teacher.
