Students connect with other other people, students, classrooms in other parts of the world.  It can be done in a mystery, "guess who/where" kind of way, or without the mystery.  Either way, it is a way to both spark curiosity about other people and places as well as a way to for students to connect globally and find out about what they have in common and what are differences.

How does this idea help to spark student curiosity?

Young students tend to have a natural curiosity. By exposing them to people and places around the world it can spark students' curiosity in areas they would have not ever thought about on their own. Having a connection with people in other places also makes those places much more real for students.
