As part of the recent Teachers Guild Book Club (https://medium.com/teachersguild/book-club-most-likely-to-succeed-preparing-our-kids-for-the-innovation-era-f28be6503ccc) we suggested teachers ask students, "what do they believe is the purpose of school?" In response to that I had asked my students to email me responses to the following questions:
- What is the purpose of education?
- What does teaching look like?
- What does learning look like?
I received some very enlightening responses, which I've attached. I also did a couple interviews with students which you can find at:
It was great to hear what my students had to say. Students know/understand a lot more than they are given credit for. We should give them more voice in what teacher PD looks like. If we listen to students and spend our PD time listening to what their wants and needs are, we surely will better service their needs and better prepare them for the future.
