I was involved in the Teaching American History grant and felt it resulted in the most inspiring and motivational professional development. The key I think is that the presenters were people who were known for their expertise in the subject matter they were presenting. In addition, the presentations included actual model lessons that we could immediately take back and use in the classroom. After we took part in the model lessons, we were given actual lesson plans that we could use right away. We were also given time to discuss and collaborate with other teachers concerning the lessons we tried out in our classrooms.
