We tend to only think of college readiness when it comes to education.  We need to broaden our thinking to include the wide range of trades available to our students. My son just completed rigorous coursework at the Northwest Lineman's College. He is ready to apprentice and ultimately become a journeyman in a much needed industry.

Thanks for this post, Leslie. It's critical that teachers create opportunities for students to connect to the world outside of school and to provide them exposure to a wide range of careers and career paths. It's also great for teachers themselves to gain exposure to other career areas since many of us went straight from college to the classroom with little or no experience in other industry sectors. Congratulations to your son!
