Architecture students joined Psychology students in designing furnishings for new learning spaces in our school. They studied teenagers (the user) and learned about the psychology of space, then took their insights and brainstormed solutions for specific types of working and learning styles. Then together, they made cardboard prototypes and pitched them to furniture makers, school administrators and other experts. Making the prototypes to full scale allowed them to learn all kinds of things about materials, structure, support and design that they wouldn't have realized with a scale model.
