I thought that this was a really interesting article. The time spent getting to know your colleagues as new colleagues and earning their respect has huge pay-offs throughout the year. 

It tied into the post from @LisaParish about how important relationships are to her students - this is another way of looking at the relationship between students and teachers and will help them to see each other as individuals with an important part to play in their own learning.

I was just talking to a colleague about the importance of building relationships with students. I once heard a teacher say, "You can teach anybody how to teach, you can't teach people how to care about other people." Students know which teachers care and which ones don't. I love the way the author speaks about how he formats the first two weeks of class. I will keep it in mind for the future! Thanks!
