when I do some of this work with my students, I use an anthropological definition of culture and use lots of examples, riddles, puzzles, historiography to emphasize how our perception works and how students may hold inaccurate views of their own potential and how education might work better for them. CULTURE: the complex system of values, ideas, and myths that largely determine social institutions and behavior. Or, more simply, the way in which we make sense of the world.
