As Information Literacy Instructor, literature is often used as a jumping off point for design and innovation.  These first graders were exposed to the Engineering Design Process ( www.eie.org/overview/engineering-design-process ) throughout the year and here was their first Design.  They were asked to figure out a way, using the Design Process and the materials that were available, to devise a way for the the goats to get across the bridge.   With the Design process as the framework, students then take charge of their learning which leads to curious, motivated, engaged students who innovate!

HI Margo, how are you? I really enjoyed the back and forth dialogue we started in the comment section around student designed classroom space. We would love for you to share your idea in more detail in the ideate phase.

A couple of questions that might help frame out this idea:
What’s this idea about?
Why is this an idea that creates a culture of innovation?
How would you pitch this to other teachers in your school? Your principal?
How’d you get this idea off the ground?

Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or want to talk the idea out in more detail!
