Both an excellent book, Start with Why, and website that delve into the all to important world of articulating the why of what we do.  

One of the salient points from Start with Why, highlights how the hierarchical structure of businesses require the CEO to be the lead agent of change. The CEO must truly understand WHY the company exists, which is essentially just a belief. I think we can reframe these examples with the CEO as the Head of School or Superintendent. IMO, it is their job to guide administration and faculty to understanding this belief.  Only then can we truly innovate and make the, "why tangible." (Sinek, p138)
