Thanks for the image. I tell my students this over and over again and of course they don't believe me until we get to the point in a project/writing assignment etc. where they can compare their 1st ideas and what the final products are. This of course means I have to spend the time pushing them to iterate and reflect their own work and each others so that the good parts rise to the surface and are further developed and changed.

Showing students that people other than their teacher believe in this idea, even professors at Stanford, is helpful to make them more amenable to not sticking with their first ideas.
