Start a habit on day one to take one minute in class to sit quietly and regroup with your students. Have them breathe deeply and check-in with their internal world. Cultivating the habit of self-awareness can start small and become powerful. It will become a great tool to return to when things are challenging or stressful, when there are confrontations or celebrations.

I like this. I would do this with my kids, often. We would use as a way to be mindful. In my next classroom (I'm not a classroom teacher at present), I am definitely going to take kids outside to do this.

Which age group might you introduce this to? Schools may be the one place some students have quiet so it is important for those moments to sit in silence and reflect outside of the busy collaborative spaces.
