Start a habit on day one to take one minute in class to sit quietly and regroup with your students. Have them breathe deeply and check-in with their internal world. Cultivating the habit of self-awareness can start small and become powerful. It will become a great tool to return to when things are challenging or stressful, when there are confrontations or celebrations.

I like this. I would do this with my kids, often. We would use http://calm.com as a way to be mindful. In my next classroom (I'm not a classroom teacher at present), I am definitely going to take kids outside to do this.
