Six Habits of Highly Empathic People.

This article comes from the Greater Good Science Center's website out of the University of California, Berkeley. The mission of this organization is to study the psychology, sociology, and neuroscience of well-being. They use cutting edge research to help people apply learned skills and knowledge to their personal and professional lives.         The author of the article, Roman Krznaric, Ph.D., is a founding faculty member of The School of Life in London and empathy advisor to organizations such as Oxfam and the United Nations. He also taught sociology at Cambridge. He makes the point in this article that empathy is a habit that can be cultivated to improve the quality of our own lives. He stresses that in the past, researchers believed that well-being was improved by looking within. Current research suggests that instead, we "...are wired for empathy, social cooperation, and mutual aid."  Tapping into that drive within us can not only improve our individual well being, but "bring about radical social transformation."

Maybe an important aspect of developing empathy within our students is helping them make the connection between their own well-being and how it is connected to improving the world around them,
