BUILD THE FUTURE YOU WANT

We believe that everyone has the potential to build more innovative, sustainable and collaborative urban spaces.

Cities are an invitation for innovation. By 2050 more than 70% of the global population will live in cities and this rises an urgent call for action in sectors as diverse as waste management, traffic coordination, education, city planning and more. All while still considering current and future environmental challenges. Aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals designed by United Nations, we invite you to help develop groundbreaking and innovative projects in Brazil in order to co-create new future scenarios for the City of São Paulo.

A CALL FOR ACTION - THE UN PROJECT FOR 2030 :

Built on the Millennium Development Goals launched in 2000, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aim to go further calling for action from all countries, global leaders, entrepreneurs and citizens to promote prosperity while protecting the planet. REMAKE.SP is an officially registered initiative [#SDGAction13586] committed to promoting 3 SDGs that go hand-in-hand with strategies that build constructive urban growth and address a range of social needs including education, health, social inclusion, and cultural advocacy, while tackling climate change and environmental protection.

1) TO TARGET EDUCATION

We need to connect schools and universities with the city. The learning space goes beyond walls and gates, and proposes new dialogues with everything that surrounds us. So the challenge is: how can knowledge be co-created and experienced? Students will connect with learning initiatives that address the movement of unschooling, active education, democratic education and edu-communication.

2) TO TARGET CONSCIOUS CONSUMPTION

New consumer relations gain space in cities and ways of producing, circulating, and consuming are rethought. The organic agriculture, exchange of products and methodologies to reduce environmental impact are more and more common. Many NGOs, and institutes are betting on this lifestyle: how can we create more sustainable ways of consumption by rethinking our habits and culture?

3) TO TARGET URBANISM

Squares and streets become a meeting point. The challenge is to think of ways to stimulate the occupation of public space by the people, motivating more interaction between them and their everyday routes.

HOW WE WILL DO IT?

THE CITY IS A LIVING LAB: How do we plan, design and manage cities that can cope with things like resource scarcity and increased waste, while meeting carbon and climate challenges?  Expect a lot of interaction with local community and outdoor activities to fully understand São Paulo.

MENTORING : The focus of mentoring is to develop the whole person and not only a group of skills or specific knowledge. Mentors will work side by side with you and peers to develop confidence, soft skills and build awareness during the learning and creative process itself. Its ultimate goal is to create an environment immersed in creativity and innovation.

BRAZILIAN PEERS: There is no way better to introduce a local culture than building intercultural teams and allowing cultural interaction to take place. Every group will be composed of Brazilians working alongside global participants.

EMPOWER YOURSELF: Your voice and the ability to work in teams will be essential throughout this experience. REMAKE.SP is a collaborative project. While working on each challenge, you will be instigated to actively engage in the co-creation process and take responsibility to share knowledge and add personal contributions. By the end of the project you will be able to see the impact of your choices in the solution progress!

Clara:
This sounds very interesting! One thought: it would be great to post a photo to go along with your idea-this helps people gravitate to it. I'm wondering how you might parse out the empathy piece of this? This sounds like an amazing program, but how do you create empathy in young people around these issues? If you could pull that part out, I think it might be interesting to work on just that piece for this challenge. Let me know what you think!
