Faberge Eggs Empathy Lesson

I teach my students the history of the Faberge Eggs, and then they design "surprises" for each other.

The students learn the history of the Faberge Eggs and discuss the empathy that must have been involved for the jeweler to create such meaningful gifts.  We also discuss the lack of empathy the Czar had for his subjects, leading to his eventual death.  The students are partnered up and interview each other.  Each student designs his or her own egg, but then loans it to the partner for a week so the partner can design a surprise to place inside.  The surprises are assessed by their creativity and thoughtfulness.
