                                                                                Different Paths One Trail

Help staff and students recognize that though we all have walked different paths with diverse experiences, that we can all come together to create something unique to us an individual that contributes to a bigger, beautiful picture.

Part 1-Collecting staff data, ACES, giving data back to them to help their students through future surveys, building teacher empathy for students, giving them talking points.

Part 2- Student surveys in the classroom administered by teachers, discussion points for follow up post-survey

Part 3- Sharing data school wide, grade level townhalls, small groups within townhalls?

Part 4-Bibliotherapy- Finding books on empathy and diversity for classes to read during morning meeting, then assigning each grade level a puzzle piece quadrant from a larger mural. Each student and staff member is given a puzzle piece to color with a key of understanding (color your part of your piece blue if…, color a part red if…, color a part green if…, etc.) Students will then color their piece for another student in the school. It will be anonymous, therefore each piece still represents a student in the school but not necessarily the creator of the piece.

Part 5- Assembling the project to display in a common area of the school. Mural will read, CTE with a horseshoe and 2 Colts with “Empathy is seeing with the eyes of another, listening with the ears of another, and feeling with the heart of another.” as a quote in the background.

Hi Kaitlyn Guttridge I'm so glad that your team is working to build out the details about this empathy experience. I would love to see a link to your collaborative Google doc on this page as well as an image that represents the work that you're planning. Please reach out if you have questions.

Hi Kaitlyn Guttridge Thank you so much for sharing this great team idea! I love the activities that will culminate in a school mural with an amazing quote. I look forward to seeing you build this idea out. The next step is to start a collaborative Google doc and link the doc on your contribution page so that everyone can jump in and start adding in the details. Think of this as a recipe that other schools could follow to put this idea into action.
