In my opinion, teachers today must use the same technology that their students use in order to effectively impart digital citizenship. Digital citizenship is engaging with your community in a respectful manner to the end in which their voices are heard and a civil conversation is encouraged. As a social studies teacher, I remind students that we live in a representative democracy. By not sharing their opinions with their elected officials they are negating the purpose of how our system of government is supposed to function. Technology has empowered a generation to speak directly to their local, state and federal elected officials on a variety of matters; some which directly impact the very students we teach.
