We have exchange programs to teach students about other cultures internationally but ignore the rich diversity in our own backyards. This exchange program would allow students to truly experience a day in the life of someone who's life is very different than their own.
Cherokee tribe of Native Americans, warned: “Don’t judge a man until you have walked a mile in his shoes” and Harper Lee stated: “You never really know a man until you understand things from his point of view, until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.”
This experience will enable students to build authentic empathy, challenge personal bias and assumptions, and build stronger relationship between participating communities.
