Universe Awareness (UNAWE) is a STEAM global programme that uses the beauty and grandeur of the Universe to encourage young children, particularly those from an underprivileged background, to have an interest in science and technology and foster their sense of global citizenship from the earliest age. Although UNAWE was only founded five years ago, it is already active in 60 countries and comprises a global network of almost 1000 educators and  astronomers.

Pedro,
Thanks for sharing this resource.  What do you think has made it so successful? Any insights you can share to support others in creating other inspirational programs?

Jessica Lura First: using an interesting subject like Space/Astronomy to engage children with STEM.  Then: the bottom-up/grassroots approach: there was a need for a network this type of  initiatives, the coordination provides resources, best practices and support .

Awesome! We would love to learn more about how the network works and what supports it offers both teachers and students. And WHY is this approach so successful. Tell us more!

Hi @Lisa Yokana ! The UNAWE network is a group of educators that use space and astronomy in education from around the world.  We share experiences, resources, skills and best practices through on-line platforms (like our website) and every 2-3 years through an international conference.  The approach enables the network members to be at the same level and they can learn from  everyone in the network. As coordinators, our role is to make sure that opportunities and activities are shared across the network.
