Science Action Comic Textbooks!

Have students take dull passages from science textbooks, and 'comicize' them to be readable, simple, understandable, and funny!

Reading about discoveries in textbooks is rather dull- they tend to be packed with extraneous text, obtuse definitions, and complicated diagrams. It's not good writing.

Students can hone their writing skills- short and sharp- and create a product that can be used in place of textbooks, claiming ownership over the classroom and their learning. Who doesn't love comics? Stick figures work great!

I also like the idea of using comics to have students reinforce a complex concept or a concept that was boring.  They could do this weekly or have one student do it each week and compile a whole comic book.  If multiple students do the work, then maybe they continue the same story from week to week.
